Edinburgh Delirium Test Box |

DelApp We recently developed an Android-based software app (DelApp) to implement EDTB (Delbox) tasks on smartphones. The rationale is that though the Delbox is effective, tests on devices that are universally available have potential for far greater impact. This is in context of rapidly-expanding interest in mobile medical software. With the advent of widespread use of smartphones in healthcare, computer-based cognitive testing is now feasible in routine healthcare. We recently (August 2013) completed two proof-of-principle single-rater case-control studies to examine further the feasibility and performance of the DelApp. These studies were performed in (a) general acute hospital wards, and (b) the intensive care unit (ICU). The findings of these pilot studies are very promising. They suggest that the DelApp performs well as a method for objective assessment of attention in delirium. They also suggest that the DelApp is practical and acceptable to patients. |
